The Real Behind the Reel: What It’s Actually Like Running a Boutique

The Real Behind the Reel: What It’s Actually Like Running a Boutique

Social media shows the cute clothes, coffee runs, and “sold out” signs—but the real story behind Basic Bee is a lot messier (and more magical).

Here’s what a typical day as a boutique owner actually looks like:

  • 8am: Emails, inventory checks, and answering DMs with iced coffee in hand.

  • 10am: Merchandising the store and steaming new arrivals—yes, I still do this myself.

  • 12pm: Quick lunch, usually while checking Shopify stats or planning next week’s TikTok.

  • 2pm: Meetings with other small biz owners or vendors to prep for pop-ups and collabs.

  • 5pm: Chatting with customers in-store, styling looks, and running the register.

  • 7pm: Content shoot for next week’s product drop (and praying for golden hour).

It’s not always glamorous—but it’s always worth it. If you’ve ever dreamed of starting something of your own, this is your sign.
